Welcome to VampWriters! Pull up a chair, sit back, and add your 14 cents worth when you feel so inspired.

Let's be honest here...vampire fiction is hot! It seems as though it never loses its appeal entirely, either.

Many of us are authors wanting to create our own Great Vampire Novel. We have something we want to say and we feel that we're exploring alleys that previous vampire fiction haven't yet touched, and that's great.

The vampire mythos isn't set in stone. Just look at the variations of the story that we have been given in fiction and screen from the original novel by Bram Stoker, "Dracula", to the German silent film "Nosferatu", to the film version of "Dracula" to George Hamilton's version of the famous Count to the Lost Boys, Spike, Angel, Mick St John, Edward Cullen (and family) and more.

Each has added or removed a facet of the vampire mythos. We may agree with or dislike the alterations and additions people make in their own works, but that's the wonder of writing. There is nothing that decrees that things should be any particular way. We are free to write what we want, as long as we don't step on any copyrighted toes (for the record, Bram Stoker's original "Dracula" hasn't had copyright protection for a very long time now, if ever. Some authors, such as P.N. Elrod, with her novel "Quincey Morris, Vampire", have taken advantage of this situation to create continuations of that novel or flights of fancy with characters therein. These new works ARE copyrighted, however.)

Are you writing vampire fiction? Are you interested in writing vampire fiction? Are you looking for ideas, someone to bounce ideas off of, or people who will give you honest opinions (helpful criticism).

Here we will discuss things like publishing options (there are many options out there besides having to fork out money up front to a vanity publisher), character development, marketing and more.

Sorry, but this is not a place for fanfiction. Works that violate copyright laws will be removed.

Heather- I read it. There's a lot I like about it. I've sent you an email outlining what I thought in more detail.

Rhonda- Have you ever tried writing a vampire tale? I know your blood runs more towards wolves... hum...
What makes a good vampire writer? Well... in my book, you have to have that real horror insight. You have to be immersed in the darkness and beauty of the gift. Although I don't mind the Buffy series... to me... those vamps don't stir me. They are not beautiful but deadly like most vamp lovers like. We like (speaking as a reader now) the author to take us into the dark world of vampire society and show us the beauty and the pain and agony and sometimes cruelty they live in. Stealing someone's blood is like stealing their soul, but it's a bit more sexual than that. Your soul is your heavenly essence. It’s clean and pretty and shiny and light. Your blood on the other hand is your dirty, mortal existence.
As far as coffins and dirt and crap... depends on your world. There are so many different vampire rules and vampire authors decide which they will use for their world. I am really excited about my second novel because the fans will get to see four different types of vampires. Not clans... not sects... but types. 4 types that each need 4 different types of nourishment. Can't wait.
Anyone else want to speak on this subject?

While I have never considered myself a Vampire fan or even a vampire writer I heard you guys needed some fresh blood this direction. So in an effort to understand what I am getting into can anyone tell me what is a vamp writer? What makes you a vamp writer? Is it just that vampire in the story? Must you sleep in a coffin? Carry a sack of the dirt from your homeland with you where ever you go?

What makes a good vampire author?

Lets hear it!

I submitted a story for publication. It was declined but with some nice comments. I'm wondering whether you can help me with the criticism I recieved. I was told the story ending was too predictable (Based on this I changed the title, which foreshadowed a lot).
Can you read it and tell me whether the ending is too standard/predictable and suggest alternatives? I'd appreciate it.
I really like this character, who is a principle character in a novel I started a while back.
Thanks in advance for anything you can give me. Write here or email me at hroulo@hotmail.com if you prefer to keep your comments more private.

Hey, awesome group. Great idea. I'll let you guys read what I've written so far. (That is) once I get off work and go home...and type it all in.~ I'm open to all opinions and suggestions. I'll also put in the notes that my sisters and I have come up with considering what will eventually go into the book.
